[Bug] Perfect island reward despite losing region

For context, I'm playing the first island, last mission (defend HQ and kill the boss). This is near perfect run, with all objectives achieved so far.
There are 2 turns left, and all my 3 pilots died on this same turn. I did kill the boss, and the HQ was intact so far. Last turn, the remaining veks move and target the HQ tower that I can't defend anymore. However, since all mechs are now disabled I get the "No reward for lost region" message and the game terminates.

Immediately after, the "Perfect Island" and Reward selection screen appear. This shouldn't happen, since a) I lost the region b) the HQ would have been lost as I could not defend it on the last turn that I couldn't play.
