White Screen. Tried many fixes

Hello.
I just bought a new alienware laptop (with great specs so I doubt its the issue), on a Windows 8 OS
and FTL will not run; it only shows a white screen.

I have checked the forums for a fix but none seem to work.

The stdout.txt file in the install reads:

I tried entering 'betapatch' into the beta tab under the properties of the game.

No dice.

Please help!
