a transparent box opens with the ftl logo in the top left hand corner. I can see the desk top underneath the transparent box.

The mouse cursor will not enter the box

I like the music but would like to play the game. Help!

Purchased the game from GOG, and I have a toshiba satellite.

I suppose you are a Windows user? Which version? What video card do you have in your computer? Do you have the latest video drivers installed?

The music is still nice, but....

After you have closed the game, is there anything written in the stdout.txt and stderr.txt files, which can be found in the same directory as FTLGame.exe? Also is there anything in the crashlogs directory?

Maybe, your graphicscard can't support openGL? A friend of me had this problem with his laptop.

x_00, I'm very sorry about this! I'm afraid I don't have a solution yet for this problem. I've had a few reports from other people with Toshiba Satellite laptops and believe that it's a video driver issue. Everyone with the Toshiba laptops have been unable to update/reinstall their video drivers, which in most cases have been up to three years old according to their dxdiags. I've recommended that people contact Toshiba about getting updated drivers, but haven't heard back if anyone got any information from them.

And I've also logged this thread as another source where someone is having the problem. As soon as a solution is discovered I'll make sure to immediately get back to you.

In the meantime, if you purchased the game from our website I'd be happy to offer you a refund for this delay in functionality (you can keep the game, I'd only return your money). But if you purchased from Steam or GOG.com you'd have to contact them directly

I'm also having this problem, I have it installed on my main desktop computer and when I run the game I only get a window filled with white and music playing. Also when moving the mouse around inside the window I can hear the sounds for when I am mousing over one of the menu options.

Skraith are you also using a Toshiba Satellite laptop?

@skraith82: Can you email me DXDIAG dump to zasdarq@ftlgame.com? To get one: just hit Start and search for "dxdiag" in the search box in the Start Menu and you'll find dxdiag.exe. Then choose Save All Information and email me the file.
