Mouse uncontrolable

I recently built a brand-new PC and installed FTL through Steam. When I open it and the menu screen loads, however, the mouse disappears and flashes across the screen. I am unable to control it or click on anything. It occasionally passes over a menu option, playing the corresponding sound. The menu music plays normally.
