The Artillery system of the Federation Cruiser trains the weapons skill of the crew member manning weapons when it fires.

And this is a bug how exactly?
Maybe the gunner pressed a button when prompted even if the computer does the targeting and firing automatically.

I am almost positive I saw a dev say this was intended somewhere. I distinctly remember noticing it myself (when my weapons guy leveled up on a beam fire) and then finding out it's not a bug... somehow.

Also, the beam benefits from Automated Reloader but not Weapon Pre-Igniter.
