struggling to get CE to work! FTL vet but Mod noob needs help plz!

Howdy guys!
I've played ftl for 350+ hrs and hadn't any problem with SMM or any mods for years but I've just got back into ftl after a couple yrs away and CE wont work. I've got a new laptop and downloaded ftl then CE SMM and that had and a few runs then noticed none of the CE content was there bar the initial loading screen ( which did load a bit janky ) . I'm a p.c noob so the smm etc and all the hard work the modders have done is awesome but i'm unsure the problem.
The only thing I can guess is my save used an older revision of SMM and CE?
I'd backup my save and try fresh if I knew how lol any helps appreciated lads!
Other mods work like the ship customiser or randtrel stuff so im stumped.
