Aside from pleasing the fans, a smart move to possibly double the betatester userbase and spot bugs related to pc specs before the oficial release.

I must be lucky I got an early Beta Key just today. Already had three games and it's harder than the YouTuber's make it look!

Does anyone know why FTL doesn't show up as "coming soon" on Steam? (or something to that effect)

Games often don't show up on Steam until the release date now, especially indie ones. Also, if Steam did put it up early, they probably wouldn't let you pre-purchase it anyways. It would most likely just show no price and no buy option.
