Actually, the developers sell a non-DRM variant, and GoG sells one other variant, and we don't know how much each of the three variants have sold. All you can say is that 5% of the Steam-variant buyers cannot sync their save games.
I agree with you that it would be nice to have, though.

I'm running into this issue too- I have a windows desktop at home and a mac (eww) laptop for work, I was really hoping this would work out of the box since they both have steam and the game has cross platform support. Please, please please can you try and get the sync working?

This is why FTL does not list "Cloud Support" on our Steam store page. It's not something we ever claimed to have and we just don't have control over. As you can see in the link from above (https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steam- ... t-15741211) Valve has acknowledged it would require a change on their end with the Steam client.
I've poked them again in the hopes that they do it.

Ah, funny thing. This isn't actually fixed, although this time it's Valve's fault. Steam cloud doesn't listen to the case when creating the directories in which the files are stored, so something to keep in mind.
