@Sanmonku I only tested the first link with the original resolutions.

@Rhaining All I did was download it, and patch it using Grognak's mod manager. Nothing else to it. I've been having trouble with it, though. When I first had the problem with the nebulas, I tried to delete V1.3 and reinstall V1.0, but it just kept it at V1.3 after I repatched in 1.0, so that's when I came here looking to see if there was a fix. Even though I have all background mods deleted from the mods folder, V1.3 still running in game. Not sure why that is. At any rate, things are working normally now, so I can't complain.

Is the download link dead? Whenever I try to download it, I get this error in moddb:

"The file you have selected (Better_Planets_and_Backgrounds_v13.7z) is not available via any mirrors."

Can you (or anyone) upload it somewhere else maybe?

I was able to download it after logging in, it looks like unregistered users there don't have access to all mirror download links.

yeah right i tested it while i was logged in... and just tested it while not logged in, it will bring you to a gamefront mirror.
but sometimes moddb has its problems, trying later always helped me ;)

just in case anybody else isn't able to download.

events_imageList.xml is encoded with UTF-8 BOM. It should be encoded with UTF-8 without BOM.

I have no clue what that means. Does it mean that there might be a different simple fix that would allow Mac users to use the double resolution nebula pics and turn on animation?

FYI, I patched using GMM with these patches, in this order: Better Planets & Backgrounds v1.3, Better Asteroids, nebula original res. The game launches on a Mac, but I haven't had a chance to explore asteroids or nebula yet with these patches in place.

I've just been fixing errors reported by GMM's Validate feature, I have no idea if it'll fix that problem. The XML file wasn't encoded with the character set it recommends, it was UTF-8 w/ BOM instead of UTF-8 w/o BOM.

FYI, this also worked for me. Specifically, I used GMM to install these mods in this sequence:
  • 1. Better Planets and Backgrounds v1.3
    2. Better Asteroids
    3. Nebula original resolution
I then turned on animations. This combination works well on a Mac running in windowed mode. Thank you!

FYI, I've now tried nebula animation on a Mac with (a) no nebula image patch, (b) nebula original resolution patch, and (c) nebula double resolution patch. (A) is really broken, so much so that you need to turn off animations in order to play the game. (B) looks great! (C) is not really broken like (A), but, it also doesn't look right. You can see sharp edges where the images overlap one another, which looks artificial.

Thanks again for the great mods and for this nebula patch! I was definitely willing to sacrifice nebula animation to be able to use your mods, but I'm delighted to have nebula animation back, too.
