Sole Survivor Challenge...

Are you looking for some added challenge in your FTL gaming lives? Getting obliterated by the RNG normally no longer satisfies you? Well this is the thread for you...
I recently tried a new (as far as I'm aware) kind of challenge run which I have dubbed the "Sole Survivor Challenge" and I'd love to see how other people can do with it...
The rules are simple. You are only ever allowed to have one crew member on your ship (so if you start with more than one, you have to dismiss them until you only have one, and you have to dismiss any additional crew you find during your journey), and you have to see how far you can get with any of the original 18 ships and alternate types.
There are a few things you can do to make your life easier, and it is entirely possible, so give it your best shot and tell us how your solitary flight went! Good luck...

Seems to me that drones would be a big help. Maybe its the Engi cruiser type B's time to shine.
also I love the videos.

Bonus points for using any ship other than the Engi B!
Since the Engi B is kind of designed for the whole 1-person start, it takes a bit of the challenge out of this challenge.

Mantis B with a single Mantis sounds like a disaster waiting to happen.
Let us know how it goes!

went.... interesting. the reason i chose this ship is it already has very good drones, one of which helps w/ boarding! i say try it if you are ok with waiting for the tele to charge back up.
btw i hate you now VoV because in that same run i got 2 rockmen and a mantis. a great boarding party, wasted D:

So, how many extra points do I get for using the NightHawk?

I'll also try this, but won't have time until this weekend. Going to try the Kestral A.
Advantages: Very familiar ship; High % win rate under normal circumstances; Burst Laser II.
Disadvantages: For the love of God, why is the engine and O2 way back there! Bad layout for venting. Missing about everything really useful to the one-man situation (Ion Blast II, Fire Bomb, top notch boarder race, drones)
Looking at venting the bottom half of the ship just leaving a path from the pilot seat back to O2. This puts every major system except doors and pilot one door from a vented room or if vented, one door from a room with air.
For the boss, I want:
4 Shields
Max Engines
Cloak
Defense I and Sys Repair drones
Either a Fire Bomb, Fire Beam or top notch weapons to knock down the weapons rooms without boarding
Just wonder if I can get enough scrap to have enough to drop the boss with limited to no boarding potential.

I hadn't even considered trying to do a boarding strategy with a one-crew ship... I bet that led to some tense moments.

Probably quite a few what with that ship being a death trap and all.
I haven't played it for myself though, so I don't know exactly how that would go. Best of luck to you if you're going to try it though: you're certainly going to need it. ;D

Sounds like you've got it all planned out! Hopefully everything works according to plan, although we all know that FTL likes to mess with even the best of intentions.
Good luck!
