Cargoholds ?

Will the ships have cargoholds/fueltanks. to store missile, scrap and fuel.
It's just one more thing to worry about. get engines back online or seal the hull breach in the cargohold, before you loose all your scrap to space.

Thats quite a fantastic idea, but it would really only work on you since having you and wouldn't have much of a tactical advantage for you to target the enemies cargo bay to jettison their scrap, unless by doing so you could pick it up? same with fuel maybe. o0o Possibilities.

I like it. Adds a little bit more resource management.

Perhaps destroying a cargo hold will result in any warheads stored within to detonate, causing heavy damage to the ship, centered around the blast.

This provides more strategic value to attacking cargo holds, along with protecting your own.

Didn't they have a scrap recovery arm. as an add on ?.
That would help recover some you your losses. but the fuel tanks would be critical unless the ships use solid fuel.
Think about it. when you get the message that they are trying to run away. then its time to crack open the cargohold. and recover what they drop.

Or, you could teleport people over to steal from their cargo bay.

I see this being a double edged sword. It'd be great to get that extra bit of scrap by taking out your enemies hold but the first breach to your you'd be swearing. It would add another level of difficulty to the game, that's for sure.

Does the game really need to be harder?
