I was in sector 6 with the Bulwark, had just bought a fire beam, and hit a rock sector. Shit.

Well, I fought and boarded my way through it, and accidentally unlocked the Shivan while fighting a rock crew in a fire.

Good for me, but a little weird. Is that supposed to work?

At least that's how it worked for a long time, I also got it in classic FTL that way. It doesn't say anywhere that the enemy crew needs to be killed by fire, just in fire.

In fact, rockmen are the only way to guarantee you'll get the achievement. If you're fighting a meatsack in a fire, and the fire does the last point of damage, you won't get the credit.
