I think we all know about Star Control and the various factions. But I just thought of this brilliant idea for a cruiser that sort of follows the concept of the Druuge.
For those who don't know, the Druuge were a bunch of aliens who ran a very brutal corporate lifestyle on their homeworld and did things like slavery and ripping off everyone.
Their cruiser had a very big gun which the recoil would push the ship back. The secondary function would immediately kill one of the crew to bring the ship back to full power.
So the idea I'm going with is this:
The Druuge Cruiser starts with a bad reactor, like the Zoltan C (and will be staffed by Zoltan slaves... I mean workers) and an artillery system that's isolated from the rest of the ship. The gun can do massive damage on impact but if it gets hit, you're up the creek, right?
Nope. A pair of doors in opposite rooms will allow crew to transition through but they won't be able to leave if they are in transit in the isolated Artillery room. So essentially the crew is sacrificed to maintaining the big gun. There might be an airlock or something to flush any boarders out but the ship's main idea is to sacrifice crew to keeping the weapons operational.
So it's be something like this:
[Hallway] [Door] [Artillery] [Door] [Hallway]
The doors are linked to the hallways, so if you go from Hallway 1 to Hallway 2, you have to pass through the Artillery. But you can't go there directly. But if your crew stops while in there... they're inside forever. So maybe it should be at the back to avoid accidental sacrifices since there shouldn't be anything important but the artillery at the back.
Thoughts? Questions? Anyone who'd be willing to fly such a thing if I made it?

I would. I like challenges, such as CE and/or insane difficulty

I, THE GREAT PAPYRUS, WILL FLY THIS SHIP, AND DEFEAT THE REBEL FLAGSHIP!

(i don't think that's possible, though)

Dammit.
Knowing that someday I'll get around to making an Undertale-inspired ship fills me with Determination!

Re: [SHIP IDEA] Druuge Cruiser
I did actually have that idea in my head, the idea of a "one way door", but I couldn't work it into a sufficiently interesting concept. Like, it would be a neat idea, but I couldn't figure out a way to make the rest of the ship work around that idea, instead of it being just "a ship with that one gimmick but otherwise it's just a kestral". However, you seem to have worked around that idea pretty well, with the idea of sacrifices.
I have the feeling that drone system + system repair neuters the idea, anyway, although it also cripples the ship offensively (by taking up system space). Similarly, clone bay + airlock -- just use the 'medical airlock' on whoever's stuck in there, and revive them in the clone bay, which is on the main part of the ship.
I also have the feeling that airlocks in the artillery room are absolutely vital to the ship's performance. If boarders get stuck in there, with no way to kill them, you can't repair the ship or make upgrades since hostiles are on board....and this sticks for the rest of the run.
Mechanically speaking...I think you could do something like this:

You could have that room's doors link to the artillery room (manually editing door links in Superluminal). But, if the artillery room has no doors, then there's no way back.

That could work too, but I want to avoid the possibility of an accident because someone said "Oh damaged system! Better send in a repair drone/crew"NarnKar wrote:

The Clone Bay would make the sacrifice trivial so perhaps the Weapons system could be in there so you have more precedent to keep it intact and someone in there. But if that place gets boarded by say lanius and AI Avatars... you might lose more crew trying to stop them than you should be. But such are the sacrifices for the Crimson Corporation I suppose.

Re: [SHIP IDEA] Druuge Cruiser
I've got an idea. You must use engi nanobots for your slaves to survive. If medbay gets 360noscoped, you are screwed. If medbay gets boarded, you are royally screwed. If your artillery gets boarded by lanius, there's an anti-personnel drone to piss him off (but you only have 1 drone slot). And system repair drone's price and rarity should be adjusted, so you can't cheese it. So, this is how it looks like :

I don't want to force people to use Drones just so an isolated system can be repaired. I'm in the process of making the ship now and I'll have the idea shortly.

How are you going to kill the crew after firing artillery?

The ship's already been designed and uploaded and I even did a video run to show off how it works. No forced Drone Control, just a suicide Weapons Room.
