From what I know, IKEA stores are laid out so you go past all the displays in order to reach the end. I haven't actually stepped foot in an IKEA in years but the concept is well-known.
So why not a ship laid out in a big circular pattern with one-way doors? Have piloting at the front but with only one entrance. If you move your pilot out to go get healed, they've got to traverse the whole ship in order to get back to their station. Same with repairs and same with handling boarders.
One thing I'm not sure of is how to make a door one-way without causing "Crazy Doors" in that someone enters a room, leaves through the doors they came in to another room and then back again or something and they constantly just go back and forth due to pathing.
Do I just set the door counterpart to only one room or should I make all exit doors an airlock?
An airlock for each door might be a good idea to flush out boarders. Because even they are trapped in the IKEA maze
