To put it simply: multiplayer co-op.
Each player (up to the maximum amount of crew members) would control only 1 of the crew members. The leader (Host) would be able to control his character as well as give orders to CPU characters (if there are not enough players for each crew member)
This would give a good sense of working together and bit of hierarchy as the host would be the "commander kirk" telling everyone what to do and where to be. (but people can disobey

This game-mode would work great if larger ships get added with large crews of 30+ people (e.g multiple layers with multiple weapons rooms etc) along the line of "Star Trek" Enterprise sized ships.
It is up to the developers to decide the specifics of how it would work, but this is how I thought it might work.
What do you think, would this be good, bad, or need tweeking?
