I'm not necessarily saying this would be a good idea for the overall game but I thought I'd throw this out there for discussion. What if you doubled the inventory in all the stores, basically gave them a 2nd tab so each store sells 4 types of items instead of just two? Even if you didn't add it to the base game maybe you could have an option for 'well stocked stores'.
If you did this, the game would become less about getting lucky and finding the right set of gear and more about having the flexibility of designing your ship the way you want to. For me at least, it would make normal mode more enjoyable. I can handle the scarce resources in normal but I find that too many runs depend on whether I can find items I need to buy with those resources.
Should the game be more skill and less luck based?

I kinda like how you need to adapt to whatever hand (possibly shitty) was dealt to you. I don't think I'd ever want the game to allow you to pick a build beforehand and have a very good chance of procuring what you want by the end.
That being said, the balance could benefit from some sort of moderation of what ends up being sold in stores. Having a run where every store sells drone schematics 10 times but weapons once probably isn't a good thing.

If you're having hull problems, I feel bad for you son. I've got 99 problems but a breach ain't one.

Sometimes I like to play the hunter instead of the hunted and right now that means playing on easy mode. Having optional 'better stocked stores' would, I think, give me an in-between difficulty mode and would probably wean me away from ever playing on easy again.Justin wrote:I kinda like how you need to adapt to whatever hand (possibly shitty) was dealt to you. Like I said in my original post, I'm not sure that it would be a good idea but it should be fairly trivial to program if you just add a 2nd store tab and I think it would be interesting to see how it plays out.
Edit: You've never had the urge to try out a specific ship build? I'd love to try out an anti-personal Torus, boarding drones and fire weapons I've never hit the right combination of stores to make it viable.
