The game was given to me as a gift and I have to say that I haven't raged this hard since I started The Binding of Isaac. This game has me screaming more inexplicable things at my monitor then the law would allow and I swear if anyone other then family and friends heard me they would assume I was....well a little "Touched" in the head.
I find myself more and more confused on how the concept of things works. Max out my FTL engine , get a person maxed with the thing, someone maxed on the weapons along with the weapons just two bars under being maxed, and STILL Every thing I have Misses. I can't hit anything to save my life. Near the end of the game I had the last boss, or what BETTER BE THE LAST BOSS, down to just a small pip of HP, and out of Misses and down to just a few shots myself, I didn't doge anything...and everything i shot missed. They fixed their shields, and thus killed me.
I want to know what exactly am I doing wrong? Is there something I am failing to upgrade and that's whats doing it? Now yes, I can read the FAQ's and i will after i post this, but seeing how my most recent fail has left me MORE then a little frustrated I needed to vent before i physical broke something. Oddly enough I still love the game...and refuse to look up anything for Cheat Engine because I am sure there is stuff out there for it...but I want to beat this thing legit because...i want to laugh in its face as i grind it under muh boot....
So yeah, a fine way to say ello to the forum but can't blame me for being honest. Now... I sit back...look at the game and say over and over "Wut. Do. Wut. Do. "

Welcome to the FTL forums!
To evade more shots, you need good engines, experienced guy at the engine, experienced guy at the helm. At about 30%, it becomes noticeable, above 40%-50%, it should be obvious that you are evading a lot of shots. Of course, you still get hit a lot, but so much less than if you were at 10%...
Note that your engine needs to be powered. If you only have one bar lit, then you don't evade much. Also, if you crew is busy fighting invaders or fires or whatever, you don't get their evade bonus.

If you're having problems hitting your target (which only has to do with your opponent's evade, not your own accuracy, there is no such stat) use beams. Beams hit 100% of the time. Though you have to knock out shields, they are devastating weapons. I usually don't upgrade my engines until I have everything pretty well upgraded... usually shields first, then weapons... then I try to purchase better weapons and/or drones and good drone parts and augmentations.
If you're still missing, aim for your opponent's engines, and/or bridge. If their bridge or engines are completely knocked out in the red, they have a 0% evade, which means your weapons always always hit (UNLESS they have a defense drone). You can also keep an eye on your own evade at the top left below your health. It shows your evade % and your oxygen %. The higher that is, obviously the less your opponent will hit. If it were possible to get your evade to 100%, your opponent would never ever hit you.
Hope this helps.

Not sure if you know this already or not, but it helps to fire your weapons at the same time (for the most part). You pause, wait for the last of your weapons to be charged, then fire away. The exceptions include weapons that do more than 1 damage per hit, you can fire all your 1 damage weapons, pause at the instant the last shot leaves the last gun, then fire up your heavier weapons. This ensures that the last hits will be the more powerful ones (which will be the hits that do damage as they are the ones that got past the down shields). Of course beam weapons shouldn't be fired until the instant the shields are down.
As mentioned above, hitting the helm and getting it red will shut off enemy evasion (although if manned, even an orange pilot gets full evasion). Also, if you can get the pilot out of the pilot room, the evasion gets halved as well as removing his 5-10% dodge bonus for manning the helm. Shutting the engines down, has the same effect (although in this case, every bit of damage does reduce the enemy evasion, but there are also far more bars to the engine as well). Additionally, targeting the shields for every 2 damage will shut down one shield bubble, meaning that you have one less successful hit necessary to start doing damage.
I leave the effectiveness of each target mentioned above to your own practice and experimentation.

This is not true, if the helm is not manned, you get ZERO evasion bonus no matter how high your engines are powered. The exception to this is autopilot, which, if appriopriately upgraded and powered beyond 1, it retains SOME of your evasion even if its knocked out or unmanned. At level 2 its 25% is maintained if its unmanned and 50% at level 3 (meaning if you normally have 30% evasion, you'd be at 15% unmanned if you had 3 power to the bridge)Dontmindme wrote: As mentioned above, hitting the helm and getting it red will shut off enemy evasion (although if manned, even an orange pilot gets full evasion). Learn from what kills you. It really is all you can do. It's is a very hard game to master, and even when you master it, still you get squashed.
You're not doing anything wrong, you're just figuring aout a very tough and challenging game. I hope it feels really good and deserved when you finally nail the bastard. But if the rage is just too much, better move on before you get an ulcer or something. It's not worth it if you're not having fun.
If you love this game, you love it but it doesn't love you back at all.

Re: New to the Forum and, Well New to FTL
Well i was doing great, smashing everything and found two spots to fully master my shield guy, weapons guy, pilot and FTL engi... but when i get to the last boss, ALL of its weapons are missiles. And not just single shot, this sonova explicit was shooting 3 freaking guns that shot THREE FRILLING MISSLES at me every damned time, and a ION gun that shot more then one ion blast. I had level 3 shields that did nothing because it just tore though me. What exactly do I learn form this...not to max out my shields? I mean...Really? How was that even fair >_< I don't care if i sound like a three year old on a tantrum, I AM having a tantrum! Urgh, I had over 50 missiles stock piled away just for this boss, and My Evasion to a full 50 percent...and every missile , every time, crashed into my hull. I'm calling shinanigcans. Every time i have been to the last boss, hes has 2 missiles, one heavy blaster and a lazor cutter....and this time it had nothing but stuff designed to go around my shields. What can you do when it seems the last boss is always designed in a way to make your life hell....I mean the ships insides weren't even the same, it was all flipped around, normally the shield room was on the left and this time it was in the middle...Rawr...Frilling RAWR. WHY ... WHHHHHHHY!UltraMantis wrote:Learn from what kills you. It really is all you can do. It's is a very hard game to master, and even when you master it, still you get squashed.

That is the point of it man. And also the weakness.G3n3ricPwny wrote:What can you do when it seems the last boss is always designed in a way to make your life hell...
Two things help you against the flagship, a defense drone and a teleport. The weapon bays are isolated on the flagship so if you teleport in and wreck the weapon, it stays wrecked. The main ship section is loaded with soldiers so you cant attack there, but you can knock out all weapons. Begin with the missile launcher because it hurts the most, then take out the ion and beam. With only the triple heavy laser, the boss cant hurt you much. Once it's weapons are no longer kicking your ass, you can concentrate on eliminating the shields and cloak.
