Mysterious Zoltan/Mantis death

There was a battle and a lot of stuff was happening when I sent my Zoltan and Mantis to the medbay. I was watching them and they disappeared. They were injured but not so near death that they're drop instantly and I didn't see a death animation anyway. I don't remember it being a solar flare situation but if it was I didn't think it outright killed guys. I wondered if maybe they were kidnapped by an enemy teleporter but that seemed unlikely. I think I saw a flash in the room before it happened which makes me think it wasn't some bug. The only other think I can think of is the Zoltan exploded and being made of energy killed everyone in the room, but that seems like something that I'd have heard of.
So is there some weapon or effect that could have happened that doesn't look like a something more common and recognizable?

Do you remember what weapons the enemy ship had?

Most likely some kind of bomb weapon imo. They can be hard to spot since they are teleported onto your ship and they make that flash you described.

Gorlom is right, it was probably a bomb. They teleport directly into the room and are specifically designed to do extra damage against crew.

Funny that you brought up the Zoltan exploding energy burst. I think we intended to do that at some point on Zoltan death, but never really tried it out. Easy to get distracted by all the ideas for this game.

It was probably a bomb. When they teleport into an empty room it's easy to see them but when the room has a system in it they teleport into the center of the room right where the systems icon is, covering it up so it doesn't look like there's a new object in the room.
