Eyefinity/surround support?

Post by SuperFrosty »

Looked in the forums for something about running FTL on multiple monitors but came up with nada.

Basically, I went into the settings.ini and changed the resolution to my setup (4056x1024), but the results were disappointing. Well, look:

Sorry about the oversized image :P
Anyway, as you can see, it doesn't stretch the image across the entire window. Tried using stretched and non-stretched, windowed and not windowed. Nothing worked.

BUUTT. Big but here. (Heh, big butts)

If you skip to 2:57 you can clearly see FTL running in a multi-monitor setup. I asked how they did this but no response.
One interesting thing to note is he says his aspect ratio is nearly 4:3 where as mine... I have no idea what mine is but it is definatly not a square :P

So is there anyway to force FTL to run across three monitors? If you need anymore information, ask :)

EDIT: Apparently my aspect ratio is 507:128 which is quite far away from the 16:9 the game was designed for...

There's really no need, but what they did was run it in fullscreen mode where their "screen" is the 3 monitors. Or tablets, I think those are.

But you'll get no benefit from it. The graphics are all set to look good in 1280x720 and they're raster, not vector so a bigger screen means they'll just get either fuzzy or pixelated. There is no vertical or horizontal stretching of the playable area being done so you can't have a wide screen, or a tall screen. You can have a 1280x720 screen and that's it, even if your screen is actually larger than 1280x720.

That sucks :(
What I don't understand was why it was made at 1280x720 in the first place? Surely making it 1080p and adding a resolution option would have been more beneficial?

I presume it was easier for 2 guys working on a shoestring budget to get the game out in anything resembling a decent amount of time if they decided on a resolution and went with it, and raster graphics are far cheaper and easier to deal with than rendering everything via vectors and polygons.

I prefer this FTL over the one with all those bells and whistles. This one exists. :)
