Does 'easy' mode let you unlock ships?

Does 'easy' mode let you unlock ships?
As addictive as FTL is, I think the Mantis would be much more my playstyle. Getting the prerequisites is pretty tricky though, or at least in my experience...if I play on easy mode, do I still unlock ships and the like?

The game does not punish you in any way for Easy vs. Normal. You can unlock / access everything from within Easy. The only very minor difference is achievements unlocked on Easy will say you unlocked them on Easy in their tooltip description.

Can you go back and get normal achievements? Or are you forever scarred with being a wimp?
