The latest you can pwr to the engine to avoid incoming?

When missiles and other projectiles and lasers are incoming to your ship what is the point after which diverting more power to the engine will not improve your dodging of that projectile?



I assume when it says "miss" but sometimes that doesn't happen until its most of the way across the ship.
