Encouragement

Post by curithwin »

I would just like to ask the FTL community, when Subset Games starts a new project, would you support it (no matter the game)?

I would say, being a part-time Indie Dev myself, I will be supporting them what ever. Their game design is better than most, if not all, triple A studios and they have a good ethic when it comes to community as well.

Keep up the good work guys and good luck for the future.

I generally support indie devs, but I don't really play favorites, I just look for good products and hope that the same people who made good products in the past are going to do so again in the future.

No, if they make a tetris clone or something I don't think I'd throw money at my screen.

I would pay attention to any upcoming project but I'd still evaluate it based on it's own merits.. mostly anyway.

I feel in a similar manner- I know Subset has potential to make a great game, so I'd have a look, yet I wouldn't instantly buy If i didn't think it was as good. However, after FTL, I'm sure there are thousands of people who will also notice any new developments, and this can only lead to sales!

Dude, I totally play favorites, haha. But I'm not stupid enough to get taken in by crap.

Supporting does not mean money, but as the topic title states "Encouragement".

If they bring out the next game into beta and it's not fun, give them encouragement to make it fun.

For what reason would I not encourage any developer, indy or otherwise, to try to make a fun game? I mean, what's the alternative, "Please make that game more boring, I don't want to enjoy it!"

I guess it might be problematic to "encourage" a developer to make a game fun, because fun is a tough thing to isolate, it will vary from person to person and your efforts may end up tarnishing their vision with your idea of fun. Simultaneously, however, a developer needs to know what their audience likes, so your feedback is important even if the developer needs to be empowered to do what they feel is right.

That said, this is still sort of a weird topic, "Should we encourage others to well." Of course we should. I'm thinking this must be the kind of thread you create when you're thinking, "I really like these guys games, but I don't want to be that overt fanboy about it, so I think I'll start a thread in which I frame it as more of a question as to whether or not it's okay to be a fan."

Well, that didn't go well, because unfortunately we aspiring starship captains are almost universally overly-critical nerds. :geek:  :ugeek: Better approach would just be straightforward, "I really like FTL and I look forward to seeing what you do next." That's cool, me too. Right on, bro.
