FTL crashes on start-up, makes whole PC unresponsive.

Whenever I attempt to play FTL in fullscreen of any kind the game instantly crashes on start-up, and makes my whole PC unresponsive. I can't alt+tab, ctrl+alt+del or anything else, the entire screen becomes black and the only thing I have discovered thus far to get out of it is to hard reset. I can't post any crash logs because the game doesn't technically crash, but break my PC. Windowed mode works fine so I can actually play the game. Any help is appreciated.
