Bursts of slowdown since installing Advanced Edition

FTL worked fine for about a year on the normal version. When the AE came out a few months ago I installed it, and immediately started having problems with lag. Every few minutes of gameplay, the game will slow to a crawl for maybe half a minute, sometimes freezing up completely and locking up my entire computer, before suddenly going back to normal. I just tried a run in the normal, non-AE version and the game crashed completely within minutes (I don't mean the AE version with the AE content disabled, I mean the old .exe).

I'm playing the GOG version on Windows Vista. Here's a dxdiag dump. I have the latest patch installed.

It may be that you simply do not have enough RAM installed. What, if any, mods do you have installed? Certain mods require a lot of memory and I don't know if 3GB is enough.
I'm probably missing something obvious, but it's 9:49 PM here and I'm tired.
It'd probably be better to get someone else to look at the dump.
I need to go to sleep now... Zzz...
