Your guns shooting down a enemy drone

I had this happen yesterday and I was like wtf ^^

Basically, if a drone passes thru the path of a gun while that gun fires, the gun (a laser in my case) will hit it and destroy the drone.

Anyone else have this happen and if so, with what gun(s)?

It doesn't happen too often, but the enemy ships can also shoot down your drones in the same way. At least you can usually send out another immediately, and it's one less hit that you might have taken to your shields/hull.

I think any of your weapons except beams can do it

I've been able to do it intentionally several times

fyi this also happens with missiles too, i've shot down a missile that passed right infront of my weapon before. and I can only guess it would work against boarding drones too but i've not had that situation happen yet

I can confirm that both asteroids and missing shots from enemy attack drones (and thus misses from any enemy weapon too) can take down your defense drones too. Hilarious.

It shouldn't be that hard to intentionally kill an enem defense drone with a beam (if beams can destroy drones): the defense drone floats following the shield perimeter.

GROUNDBREAKING RESULTS:

I'd venture saying that any pair of non-beam (and non-ship) bodies can collide, anihilating one another.

Just saw a (heavy I) laser collide with a (not sure which version) ion ball.

Not sure why there isn't an achievement for two projectiles colliding.

Thankfully, not entirely true. Your own laser shots can pass right through your defense drones without damaging them.

Bodies from different factions, that is. This makes for You, Them, and Asteroids (I doubt two asteroids would collide, in the probably impossible case that that happened).
