I've been having some instability issues lately, so I don't think my computer crash was related to FTL. It crashed while I was playing and when I loaded it back up, the continue option was gone. :( I was doing so well, too.

This is done on purpose - the save file is deleted immediately upon loading a game.

There have been a few requests to make a "last node jump" autosave feature for times when the game or your computer crashes, but the developers haven't said one way or another whether they're considering implementing it or not.

It would be awesome if it was saved after each decision was made. It would stop most of the ability to restore. Honestly, I could just backup the files before I started if I was going to play like that. So why not just leave them there for the cases of game/computer crash?

This has happened to me 2x now. I was just at the end of Stage 7 with the Rock ship, was very excited to come home and do stage 8, and the game crashed about 1 min in, deleting my save.

For the second time.

Very, very annoying!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It would be excellent if there were some failsafe that you guys could implement so that this will be less... devastating.

Believe it or not, my -very next savegame- also met a similar fate: I exited the game and shut down the computer very quickly before I left, and when I turned it back on, my Continue was again gray. Apparently, I didn't allow enough time for Steam to save my game or something...

Help?

Happened again. This time I exited/saved the game back to desktop, went to the bathroom, loaded it up, and it tells me that my Steamcloud didn't sync, and if I start the game I will lose all my progress.

This is a GAME-KILLING BUG. Seriously! Please come up with a better method of saving the game! I love FTL, LOVE IT, but I'm just not going to play a game that deletes my savegame constantly.

Unfortunately your game is not so perfect that it never crashes. :(

just lost a game at stage 6 after maybe 3 hours playing due to this "bug" which is actually a feature intended to prevent cheating.

As a linux coder, I have a suggestion. Install a crash-handler on your application. The game should copy the save state to the crash handler over a pipe like every second, or share it in a shared-memory segment. If the game crashes, the crash handler can save the most recent state.

This might not be 100%, maybe the save state might be corrupted if the game is crashing, but it's more likely to preserve games than a removed save file.

I think those posts are related to Steam Cloud Sync issues that have since been fixed.

FTL is a rougelike-like game, and it's common for such games to not have any savegames at all. It may not sound agreeable to everyone but that's how the game was designed. The ability to save&quit was only added later during development, possibly during beta-testing.

FTL is generally stable (when unmodded), but i don't really want to agrue that your idea is without merit because it makes sense. Just not really high priority as it's more important to eliminate crashes.
