Hi all, first post here. I finally got all signed up for the forums, and I've built up quite a little list of things I'd like to see in FTL. Mostly control changes. I hope I'm not repeating things that have already been said. And it's a bit long-winded so I highlighted the important parts.. but anyways, here it is:
1. More and Better Hotkeys - Maybe it comes from playing a lot of Starcraft, but I loves me some hotkeys. Right now there only seems to be some for the weapons. Here are a few ideas:
-- Weapons are 1 - 4, so maybe drones could be "Q, W, and E"? (EDIT: Oops, there are drone hotkeys.)
-- Tab cycles through crew list: I think this would be good for re-positioning crew at their stations on shields, weapons, etc.
-- Having hotkeys for the opening an closing of all doors would be nice.
-- Hot keys for teleporting would be nice too!
-- Separate hotkeys for event choice selection and weapon controls. I like to manually fire my weapons, so sometimes I'll be quickly targeting away and a choice to, say, "take a slave or show no mercy" pops up I accidentally choose without getting the chance to read the options.
-- It would be nice if I could just hit space to get through dialogues that just have a "continue" option. I know I can hit "1" but I think those numbers should be reserved for the weapons only, so things don't get mixed up.
Okay, I'll wrap this up: Hotkeys for everything!! Jumping, opening up the ship menu, store menu, etc.. And somehow make them all accessible for the left hand on the home key position :P. (Or customizable, for lefties?)
2. Weapon Power Management - Right now, to power weapons up and down you have to click on each equipped weapon to set their power, I think it would be easier to just be able to click on the main weapons icon and they would power up and down based on their priority. And if you need to do some specific weapon tweaks you can still individually power them up and down.
3. Click and Drag Door Opening - When I need to let out some air, it'd be nice if after I click the first door to open, I could just drag it out, from door to door, and open a path to space.
4. Color Coded Event Text - Sorry to say it but.. I kinda stopped reading event text after the first few games. I skim it a little bit just to get the basic idea.. or I just look at my choices to see what I want to press. This you already do with the blue specialized text, but I think maybe you need to add a little bit more. For example, I sometimes miss when I gain a new crew member. Maybe if the text was in green my impatient brain wouldn't have overlooked it. And when looking at some of the trades, maybe the numbers could have more impact if they were color coded, expenses in red, gains in green.

I quite like the highlighting of certain things in different colours. I have missed the fact that I've gained a new crewman a few times.
Just to note, drones are hotkeyed to 5,6,7 I believe, or they are when you have 4 main weapons, I'm not sure if it's incremental depending on the number of slots the ship has.

Ah! Thanks for the heads-up on the drone hotkeys, didn't notice that. When I first thought of the idea, I don't think that was implemented, or maybe I just missed it at the time.
..but even still.. I think I like the accessibility of QWE. :)
